Announcement card for my concert at The Kitchen in Soho. Michael Lally took this photo and had told me about once watching Nina Simone inch slowly across the stage in a straight skirt and high heels to great dramatic effect. By the time she reached the piano everyone was on the edge of their seats with anticipation. I decided I wanted to wear heels for my performance and so had been practicing pedaling the piano in heels for weeks beforehand.
